Transform your existing living area into a cozy Home Theater
Home entertainment is the buzz-word these days. You can create your own Home Theatre with the right resources, a know-how on the nuances and a little effort. Here are a few tips to transform your existing living area into a Home Theatre. Take your own time to chart out an in-depth plan that suits your needs and desires keeping in mind future renovations.
Consider the current layout of the room – Your Home theatre style and design will depend a lot on the space available in your living area. Check whether the existing electrical plan is good enough to accommodate your new equipment or you need to make some modifications. In case you are going for a major modification, draft a flexible electrical plan with a 2-inch cable conduit to allow future cables, such as fiber optic, to run through finished walls and ceiling with ease. Understand the power requirements of the equipment you are planning to buy before making modifications to your current plan.
Work on the acoustics - The composition of floor, wall and ceiling material is very important for improving the sound quality of a home theater. Excessive sound can be dissipated through the proper use and placement of decorative sound absorption material on these surfaces.
Choose the right equipment and place it correctly- A basic home theatre TV screen measures up to 40-inch and needs 5.0 ft to 8.33 ft of viewing distance. But a 70-inch screen requires about 8.75 ft to 14.75 ft of viewing distance.
- Speaker’s preferable positions:
- Central and front speakers – adjacent to the TV display.
- Surround sound speakers – Wall mounted, 2 to 3 feet above ear level when seated.
- Sub-woofer–Closer to a wall or in any corner adjacent to TV.
Get the lighting right
- Black-out materials, dimmers, drapes and lighting control system (if affordable) helps in controlling the home theatre lighting, giving a better viewing experience.
- Limit light reflection from the screen with dark sidewalls and ceilings.
- Minimize your theatre screen’s glare; choose from a range of flat panel screens such as LCD, Plasma or LED.
Assign precise seating spaces
- The ideal angle of vision is 30 degree horizontally and 15 degree vertically for a viewer.
- The optimum viewing distance follows the ‘2-to-5′ Principle. Design your seating area with 2 times the screen width, for the nearest distance and 5 times the screen width, for the farthest distance.
Leave room for future upgrades
- Invest on designing an efficient home theater to integrate future technology improvements.
Also maintain a movie & music library, few scoops of ice cream, popcorns and when done setting up, just unwind in your recliner.
